Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre (DBNC) is looking for an experienced Training & Employment Student Support Mentor/Case Manager to work in our “Orbital Works” training and employment team. Please note, this is NOT a clinical/counselling role.

Based in Deception Bay, also servicing Caboolture, Redcliffe & Strathpine locations, our program is funded by the  QLD Government Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.

DBNC offers tailored support and assistance to disadvantaged people to gain nationally recognised skills and qualifications including a mix of career advice, job preparation and employability skills, and individual and supportive case management, this is complimented by DBNC’s other services such as counselling, legal advice, financial and budgeting assistance, outreach family services and much more. We are proud of our outstanding employment outcomes from this program and our students all voluntarily self refer into our programs.

About this role

As a member of DBNC’s ‘Orbital Works Employment Services team, you will be working with a dedicated, energetic, and flexible small team, to support individuals to gain Nationally Accredited qualifications and to assist them in becoming job ready leading to employment. 

The role is for an initial 12-month period with a potential extension *24 hours per week (negotiable).

As a Case Manager/Student Support Mentor you will:

Promote and develop a supportive human services/job preparation program for a small case load comprising (self-referred) unemployed or under-employed people from the local community.

Provide tailored support and assistance to disadvantaged people to gain nationally recognised skills and qualifications including a mix of career advice, job preparation skills, job readiness skills and individual case management to address any challenges or barriers to employment. You will be assisting local people who genuinely want to complete a qualification, gain employment and improve their lives. Provide one on one support to assist participants to increase their employment opportunities and to develop new skills.

Use wrap-around service delivery to support participants to overcome barriers and achieve their personal goals.

Develop and manage relationships with employers, the local community, and relevant stakeholders to improve outcomes for participants.

You will need:

  1. Qualifications in a relevant training and employment services field and/or one or more years experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated skills and experience working as a case manager or mentor and achieving set targets
  3. Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a professional team environment and achieving target outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of people, including from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  5. Current Queensland Driver’s License.
  6. Possess or be eligible for a Blue Card (Working with Children check).

This role is classified under the SCHADS Award Level 5.
