About the Position

The Generalist Counsellor will work within the Child and Family Support services team as part of our Targeted Earlier Intervention funding stream. You will provide generalist counselling services to parents, children, and youth who live within the Pre-Amalgamated Bankstown area.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Undertake assessment of clients, implementation of counselling strategies, interventions and services.
  • Conduct counselling interviews with individuals, couples, families and groups.
  • Establish and maintain appointments and ongoing sessions, with the optimum level of four daily counselling sessions.
  • Inform clients of the services provided by Creating Links, their rights and responsibilities and the availability of other community resources.
  • In consultation with other staff and Target groups, identify needs and develop, implement and evaluate appropriate group programs and activities that meet those identified needs.
  • Develop and keep accurate statistical information on services provided and provide reports as required.

Essential Criteria:  

 

  • Tertiary/Diploma qualifications Psychology, Counselling, social welfare field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in working with vulnerable clients and communities.
  • Experience in delivering evidenced based interventions to support client needs.
  • Ability to maintain client information, records and referrals processes in line with professional and legal standards.
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to Child Protection Issues.
  • Understanding of the needs of socially disadvantaged/vulnerable families.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in statistical data collection and recording
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated group work skills and ability to facilitate group interventions.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Current Criminal History Check 
  • Current NSW working with children’s check. 
  • Current NSW driver’s license 
  • Covid-19 Vaccination 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of current Work Health and Safety Legislation.
  •  Understanding of social justice issues
  • Fluency in a second relevant community language as well as English.
  • Demonstrated group work skills and ability to facilitate group interventions.
