The role:

As part of the Tasmanian Eating Disorder Service (TEDS) statewide multidisciplinary team, provide clinical leadership to deliver high quality mental health care for people with an eating disorder and their family and carers, in accordance with Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies.

The Psychiatrist will:

• Oversee and participate in the delivery of a suite of community based intensive treatment and residential programs for people with an eating disorder.
• Provide a comprehensive specialist evidence based clinical services within the framework of established medical service practice, recovery focused and trauma informed care.
• Provide clinical leadership to the TEDS multidisciplinary team in the delivery of the Community Based Intensive Treatment Program (CBIT) and the Residential Recovery Program (RRP), including the management of complex clinical matters, patient risk and safety and guiding the team-based decision making. and risk  
• Act as a consultant to mental health professionals and health service providers and participate in in shared care arrangements between DoH inpatient and DoH  adult mental health/community/primary health; and external to private practitioners and primary care (General Practice).
• Undertake supervisory responsibility with Psychiatric Registrars, students and/or other medical and TEDS staff as required/appropriate.

The team:

Tasmania is part of a nationwide program of work that is delivering innovations in the treatment of eating disorders. The Tasmania Eating Disorder Service (TEDS) is a new service, that will deliver integrated specialist care for adults with an eating disorder.  This includes Community-Based Intensive Treatment (CBIT) Programs in the North, North West and South and a statewide and Residential Recovery Program (RRP).  

We are looking for clinicians with an interest in eating disorders (no prior experience in eating disorders required) who are innovators and have a passion for delivering quality care. 

Details of Appointment

Permanent part time  day worker position working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $163,005 – $247,768 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging + Allowances consistent with the award (see below)

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 -$247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

• Salary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

*A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

• Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or (Delete previous for part time SMP) motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
• Communication allowance of $1,948 per annum, pro rata
• Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $24,927 per annum, pro rata
• Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
• other allowances as applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality (Psychiatry)
2. Current Working with Children Registration
3. Current Driver’s Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

• Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent
• Interest or experience working with patients with eating disorders.
• Eating Disorder Credentialled practitioner
