About the Role

You will effectively deliver an accountable, effective and culturally strong service to reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the child protection system. You will also provide independent support to families when child protection concerns are reported for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person with the goal of securing the safety of the children and the family’s participation in decision making.

Duties

  • Effectively engage Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families that come into contact with the Child Protection system.
  • Provide high quality case management practices and meet case performance targets.
  • Empower families through targeted interventions to have improved meaningful involvement in the Child Protection decisions that affect their lives.
  • Be a conduit and ‘lead case worker’ role for all Child Safety matters that involve the family being supported.
  • Commit to a high level of quality management for ATSICHS through use of LogiQC quality management systems.
  • Lead the direct integration with the Family Support System and internal ATSICHS services.
  • Provide crisis care support.
  • Cultivate productive working relationships at all levels, which support the nurturing of internal and external relationships, facilitates cooperation, trust and respect, values differences and diversity and guides, mentors and focuses on the development of staff.

  • Starting Salary of $83,517 per annum (depending on qualification and experience) + 11% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging (Increases your take home pay).

  • Immunisation history showing you have received two doses of a Covid 19 vaccine is encouraged.

Requirement

  • Minimum Certificate IV qualification or higher in Social Work/Human Services/Behavioural Science /Psychology/Criminology/Allied Health/Occupational Therapy/Sociology/Public Health or relevant field. 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet client performance targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a high level of practice judgement when working with clients that are involved with the Child Protection system.  
  • Ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse group of clients, and to apply a culturally responsive framework to guide interventions, with the support of staff and management.  
  • Demonstrated ability to record accurate and consistent case notes.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of direction and to effectively communicate with and work collaboratively as part of a team, and to contribute to the development of creative and innovative services. 
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing and coordinating case management processes and procedures.   
  • A willingness to travel across the ATSICHS Brisbane and Logan region of services and work across different sites.  
  • A willingness to provide social work supports and engagement to vulnerable populations.   
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply. 
  • Valid Police Check.

Preferred

  • Bachelor qualification in either Social Work/ Human Services/ Behavioural Science/ Psychology/ Criminology/ Allied Health/ Occupational Therapy/ Sociology/ Public Health or relevant field.
  • Brief intervention counselling skills.
  • Previous experience in a family support and or advocacy role.
