RSL Tasmania is the state’s Peak Body, and largest Ex-Service Non- Government Organisation in Tasmania. We provide Wellbeing, Employment and Compensation services to Veterans and their families across the state. Our Wellbeing team advocate for the best possible outcomes for all current and ex-serving Veterans making Tasmania a place where Veterans and their families can thrive.

 

THE POSITION

This is a newly created position within the Wellbeing Team at RSL Tasmania State Branch. The Veteran’s Housing Advocate provides specialist community-based intervention directly to Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across the state to assist people in finding stable housing. 

This role can be performed anywhere in Tasmania. 

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE PART OF OUR TEAM

Desired Skills and Experiences include:

  • Community Services qualification or extensive experiencing in the housing sector, with experience working within a psychological framework with community members experiencing homelessness, poverty, social isolation, complex mental health/addiction issues, legal issues or people exiting prison.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting assessments, developing case plans in collaboration with clients, and actively sourcing options for clients until they achieve their goals of having stable accommodation.
  • An understanding of the unique sensitivities associated with the Australian Defence Force environment and Veteran community, and the challenges they face with homelessness.
  • High level of oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain accurate case-notes and use evidence-based data and compelling arguments to write reports.
  • Experience building and fostering effective networks and relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, with well-developed influencing skills to advocate on behalf of clients. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, show empathy, maintain composure and not give up or get disheartened when faced with obstacles.
  • Excellent computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft and the use of client management systems.
  • Current Australian Drivers License.
