JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview: As a Family Support Case Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing center-based and outreach support to children, young people, and their families. Utilizing prevention and early intervention strategies, you will contribute to reducing risks and enhancing protective factors, particularly in the realm of child and adolescent mental health. The role involves delivering psycho-social and skills-based educational seminars, designing and implementing evidence-based family programs, and engaging with vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement center-based and outreach support for children, young people, and families, focusing on developmental outcomes and mental health.
  • Conduct psycho-social and skills-based educational seminars for families, covering mental health literacy, relationships, parenting, and positive development.
  • Design, deliver, and implement evidence-based family programs.
  • Engage assertively with socially marginalized or resource-poor client cohorts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, emerging culturally diverse communities.
  • Develop and implement family action plans based on sensitive assessment and an understanding of families’ goals.
  • Contribute to individual, team, and organizational program targets and KPIs.
  • Complete all required documentation, including client records, case plans, and assessments.
  • Represent the organization positively with external health and social service providers, participating in networking and partnerships.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of research and evaluation activities.

Key Competencies/Skills/Experience Profile (incl Qualifications):
Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy, or Psychology.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in family services and/or mental health sectors.
  • Knowledge and application of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
  • Experience with supportive counseling and case work for children and families with complex needs.
  • High-level written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Genuine interest and commitment to working with diverse families, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQA+, and refugee communities.
  • Trauma-informed knowledge and practice.

Desirable:

  • Further training related to families’ work.
  • Culturally-aware competencies.
  • Experience in program/activity management, design, and delivery.

Position Dimensions Decision Making Authority:

  • No. Of FTE: 0.8 or 1 FTE 
  • Operates within cross-disciplinary teams and across multiple service sites.
  • Responsible for the management of case load in consultation with their Manager.
  • This role is a Maternity Leave Cover with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.
