The Opportunity

Our Support Worker superstar will contribute to the ongoing development of activities initiated by the 24/7 Accommodation programs and Youturn. Your focus is on supporting young people who may be or are about to experience homelessness to achieve personal goals and quality of life that involves being active members of their communities. You will work with young people on their independent living skills, addressing barriers they may be facing and supporting their case plan to achieve long term accommodation.

This is a casual role based in Golden Beach with possibility to travel across the Sunshine Coast if needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  •  Provide appropriate information and support to new residents to assist them to feel comfortable in their new environment.
  • Contribute to initial assessments of clients’ needs and provide information and assistance in accessing appropriate services and resources for support.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individual case plans within a Client Centred Case Management Framework.
  • Supervising residents with particular attention to the hygiene, health, safety, education and general well-being of residents.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification or working towards tertiary qualifications in the human services field (minimum Certificate IV level).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of client centred practice, ensuring the wants and need of the client are at the forefront of service delivery and demonstrated ability in applying such principles. In addition, the ability to analyse complex issues relating to client support and wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of issues facing young people who are experiencing homelessness, in the child protection system and / or facing severe barriers to achieving stability and security in their personal lives.
  • Passionate about teaching young people essential life skills and improving lives.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection systems, mandatory reporting requirements and available supports and interventions.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing rapport and communicating with young people, families, volunteers, students, relief staff, staff, management and colleagues from community agencies, including people from diverse cultural backgrounds, government and non-government organisations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client’s issues and ability to articulately negotiate and advocate on the client’s behalf.
