About the role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient Peer Practitioner for a Permanent part-time opportunity (26.6 hours per week) to work alongside the Youth Step-Up Step-Down (YSUSD) residential service team in the Caboolture area. You will use your lived/living experience of mental health challenges to provide intensive, person-centred, recovery-oriented support to young people, helping them achieve their wellbeing goals, build capacity and daily living skills, strengthen social connections, enhance community networks, and grow confidence to live independently. You must be able to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including afternoon shifts, sleepover shifts, night shifts, and weekends.
Youth Step-Up Step-Down (YSUSD) is a short-term residential mental health recovery service for young people aged 16-21, delivered in partnership with the local health service. It provides intensive individual and group support to promote resilience, social connection, self-care, and wellbeing. YSUSD offers a ‘step up’ for those needing more support to avoid hospital admission and a ‘step down’ for those transitioning back to the community after a hospital stay. Each young person actively plans their recovery, with the YSUSD team working alongside families, carers, and other key people in their lives.
Key responsibilities
- Utilise your own lived/living experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and that of the team.
- Deliver high-quality services to respond to the unique needs of young people, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
- Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a coordinated, integrated response to young people’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
- Previous experience using lived experience and expertise in a dedicated Peer role strongly desirable.
- Experience, expertise and/or desire to work directly with people with mental health issues, as well as their families and carers.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
- Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
