About the role

The Pink Car Project Street Outreach Worker is part of a coordinated outreach team that identifies and engages people who might not otherwise seek assistance or come to the attention of social and community services. The Pink Car Project Outreach Worker works alongside other Street Team members, to engage vulnerable and intoxicated women to ensure their safety and well being. Teams work together in specific designated area/zones where people tend to gather, such as night clubs and bars.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, this is a casual position based in Melbourne, Victoria.

You will successfully

  • Identify, respond and support vulnerable individuals.
  • Assist the Team Leader and volunteers to call emergency services when required.
  • Establish rapport and reduce harm by providing critical, life-saving resources e.g., food, water, clothing, blankets, and other necessities.
  • Utilise trauma-informed approach, provide crisis intervention, harm reduction, and Culturally Responsive competent engagement techniques.
  • Work in partnership with all Stakeholders, including Police and emergency services, to assist vulnerable people who have been referred for assistance.
  • Contact families, friends, and/or other support networks as required for clients.
  • Support the Street Teams Coordinator/driver to facilitate safe transport home for clients
  • Attend initial and ongoing training by Victorian police regarding right handling of sensitive cases disclosed.

You will have

  • A minimum qualification of Diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g. Community Services) or significant relevant experience.
  • A valid Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • A valid First Aid Certificate.
  • A valid Victorian Driver Licence.
  • Experience within community services is desirable.
