Location: FIFO from Cairns (Monday to Friday roster)
Status: Full time fixed term (until 30 June 2023) Multiple positions
Salary: $74,932 – $93,665 p.a. + super

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service. We provide culturally appropriate, family centred, comprehensive primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York. 

About the Opportunity
Working within a cohesive and integrated team, this position provides high quality, responsive and culturally appropriate counselling services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities of Cape York. This position is suitable for an appropriately qualified Counsellor, Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Mental Health Occupational Therapist or Social Worker. This is a FIFO position from Cairns. A typical week involves flying out from Cairns on Monday morning and returning to Cairns on Friday. You will be provided with accommodation and a travel allowance of up to $113 per day as a FIFO employee.

It is a condition of employment for this position that the employee be vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the Workers in a healthcare setting (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements) Direction.

 

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Diploma of Counselling or tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated counselling experience and expertise in all or a combination of mental health, SEWB and AOD issues
  • Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
  • Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
