About the organisation

Junaya Family Development Services (Junaya) is in Blacktown, Western Sydney and provides Aboriginal-led services for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (Aboriginal) children, young people, and families. Services include case management, parenting programs, school-based programs, counselling, and playgroups.

About the role

The Aboriginal Family Worker provides culturally supportive and child focused family casework through Junaya’s case management framework that focuses on working with families and includes home visiting and outreach. The Aboriginal Family Worker also delivers group programs for parents, young people, and kin.

About the position

Junaya is looking for an experienced First Nations person who is committed to upholding the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Children. It is genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders.

 

About you

  1. You will have either 4-years’ experience working with children, young people or families AND/OR a Diploma in Community Services or studying tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Social Work or Psychology. For applicants without a relevant qualification, a commitment to gain a relevant qualification will be required during the course of employment. 
  2. You will understand the purpose of family support in a cultural context and have experience working with families in case management context.
  3. You will understand issues that can affect children’s safety and wellbeing. Including historical and ongoing dispossession, marginalisation, and racism, as well as the legacy of past policies of forced removal and cultural assimilation.  
  4. You will have a commitment to ongoing learning and working within Junaya’s policy and case management framework.
  5. You will be able to genuinely connect with children, family members and other professionals using a culturally safe approach.
  6. You will have good Microsoft Office skills and commitment to sound record keeping and data reporting practices. 
  7. You will hold a current NSW driver’s licence and a Working with Children clearance number.

It would be an advantage if you also had, but not necessary to apply:

  1. Experience in delivering parenting programs or other groupwork programs in the community.
  2. Knowledge of and relationships with other Aboriginal workers and agencies in Western Sydney.

 

What we offer:

  • $82,046 – $84,187 gross pa plus superannuation and leave loading of 17.5%
  • Flexible working hours (35-hour week)
