Organisation Overview
Carbal Medical Services (Carbal) is a Not-For-Profit organisation that provides health services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities in and around Toowoomba and Warwick. The core function of Carbal Medical Services is to provide medical services to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people through two medical practices and many community programs, along with being an NDIS service provider. Covering the regions of Darling Downs, Southern Downs and Goondiwindi, this position would be based in Toowoomba and reports directly to the Outreach Manager.
Position Overview
The Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Case Worker will work closely with the AOD Counsellor to assist individuals who may be experiencing issues with addiction. Additionally, the AOD Case Worker will be able to provide practical and holistic assistance to those who are participating in the program. It will be expected that the AOD Case Worker will provide an input into the planning, development and implementation of this new program to achieve the best outcome for the community.
Key duties include:
- Delivery of culturally appropriate services and support;
- Provide support to clients on an individual, family or group format;
- Assisting the AOD Counsellor to achieve the required results to help community members affected by alcohol and other drug addiction;
- Promote the program to ensure appropriate referrals to the service;
- Provide support and appropriate referrals pathways to individuals and families experiencing addictions;
- Work closely with a health professionals and stakeholders to support the journey of the client within the AOD program;
- Build and maintain respectful and meaningful community relationships;
- Contribute to the maintenance of relevant data, records and statistics;
- Participate in quality improvement processes to improve patient and Centre outcomes;
- Comply with organisational, as well as governmental, reporting framework requirements as directed by the CEO on a regular basis including in relation to funding, and planning.

Requirements:
Essential
- Unrestricted driver’s license;
- A minimum of Certificate III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, with a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care – Health Practitioner being highly desirable;
- Ability to provide Culturally appropriate services;
- Knowledge of the effects of alcohol and other drugs;
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
- The ability to function in a professional manner without direct daily supervision;
- Understanding of case management practices in mental health, drug and alcohol or generalist setting.
Desirable
- Qualifications sought: Alcohol and other drugs work certificate 4 or equivalent;
- A person that has had a lived experience of AOD and mental health issues and a history of working in health and / or community support;
- An understanding and experience within the field of drug and alcohol withdrawal and rehabilitation services;
