About the program
Headspace provides mental health support to young people aged 12 – 25, with a range of services available for young people experiencing mild to moderate Mental Health difficulties. All of our services are driven by person centred care, with a strong focus on functional recovery, youth specific interventions and support from peers who have experienced the same or similar challenges.
About the role
The Access and Intake Clinician is a key role that effectively engages, screens, assesses, refers and provides brief interventions whilst also coordinating care for young people who either contact or are referred to headspace Southport. This role works within a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals utilizing a bio-psycho-social framework of service provision.
You will thrive in this opportunity to:
- Relate to young people in a manner which is relevant and appropriate to their developmental and cognitive level of functioning and provide services in a youth friendly manner.
- Conduct bio-psycho-social intakes of young people presenting to the service, using the headspace assessment tool and document the results of assessment and screening.
- Conduct risk assessments, including assessment of suicide risk and violence and provide follow up support, referrals and treatment.
- Facilitate and monitor the integration and coordination of care of headspace Southport clients, including participating in case review meetings.
- Where clinically appropriate provide brief interventions to a small caseload of clients with mild to moderate mental health presentations.
- Participate in the duty and intake system, answering phone calls, enquiries and written referrals, screening and assessing needs, prioritizing and making appropriate follow up appointments and referrals.
This is a contract position until June 2023 with the possibility of extension.
About you
We are looking for a passionate and energetic Clinician to join our vibrant and enthusiastic team at Southport.
To succeed in the role, our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Degree in social work, psychology, occupational therapy or mental health nursing.
- Minimum of 12 months experience working in the mental health field
- Knowledge of mental health, evidence-based interventions and clinical practice
- Ability to undertake initial screening activities and comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments
- Highly developed communication (including written) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage with young people and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, carers and stakeholders
- Ability to develop and deliver individual or group-based skills training activities (e.g., life skills, anger management, problem solving, conflict resolution, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to conduct a risk assessment (e.g. suicide risk and violence)
The remuneration for this position will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications, skills and experience and will range between $77,577 to $83,486 per annum plus salary packaging (up to 6k) plus superannuation.
