About the Faculty/Group
Four teams work in collaboration in the Student Experience portfolio:
- Library
- Residential System
- Student Services
- Wellness Centre
The overall goals of the portfolio, across teams, are to support and service:
- Student retention
- Student engagement
- Transformative and personalised student journeys
The Student Wellness Centre provides a range of student support services and programs in a cross-disciplinary team including Counselling and Psychology Services (CAPS), the Student Accessibility & Wellbeing Team (SAWO), the Student Grievance Unit (SGU) and Student Engagement teams. The teams are working together to ensure the highest standard of support for students to succeed in their studies at UNE. SAWO provides advice and study adjustments to students facing additional barriers to their studies.
About the role
The Accessibility and Wellbeing Advisor provides specialised individual support to students who present with complex health conditions or disability to best accommodate and coordinate the student needs and options for study. The role will be responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of UNE’s fitness to study resources.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in counselling, social work or related field with substantial relevant experience; or extensive relevant experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver quality specialist support to people with complex needs, with proven ability to identify and analyse required information to resolve complex problems.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a diverse range of people and ability to recognise and respond appropriately.
- Proven analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret legislative and policy requirements relevant to students with high needs.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple processes, balancing and prioritising tasks in a dynamic and complex environment exercising independence, initiative and judgement.

This position is a parental leave replacement and the appointment is subject to the staff member’s leave arrangements. Should the staff member on parental leave vary their return to work arrangements, this contract may be terminated earlier by giving four weeks’ notice.
Current UNE Staff: In taking up this appointment, the appointee will need to seek approval from the Head of Cost Centre to be released from their substantive position for the duration of the secondment.
