Barwon Health Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest or subspecialty in addiction psychiatry to join our evolving Drugs and Alcohol Services (DAS) team. The position is ongoing with a minimum requirement of 0.3 EFT (additional EFT is negotiable) and a significant component of the role will be the further development and promotion of the Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (MATOD) network across the Barwon Health region, providing primary and secondary consultations for consumers with complex care needs.
About the service
Our Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service (MHDAS) is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. Our service has a strong commitment to excellence in clinical education and research activities (the CHIME & IMPACT units).The multidisciplinary DAS team sits within MHDAS and provides clinical treatment and harm reduction services for people seeking assistance with their substance use. The primary purpose of this Addiction Psychiatrist position in the DAS team will be to drive the enhancement of the MATOD network within the Barwon region and to assist in expanding the addiction specialist workforce. The position will be part of an established team of an addiction psychiatrist, an addiction psychiatry advanced trainee and four senior General Practitioners.
About the role
The primary objectives of the Addiction Psychiatrist will be:
- Providing primary consultations to complex consumers who are unable to access care through GPs in the private sector
- Providing advice to GPs in the Barwon Southwest around harm minimisation and Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (MATOD)
- Active promotion of the Addiction Specialist Service and the appropriate referral pathways, including undertaking engagement roadshows across the Barwon region.
- To act as a delegate of the authorised Psychiatrist as defined in the Mental Health Act 2014
Applicants must hold the FRANZCP, be accredited as a supervisor by the RANZCP, and be registered with general or specialist medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
