Adult Mental Health Worker – Dorset Community
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was officially formed in 1960 but has grown steadily from being a sole aeromedical service to now providing a professional and dedicated team who deliver a holistic health care service across most of the local government municipalities in Tasmania.
We work in partnership with general practitioners, allied health professionals and local service providers to deliver physical health and mental health programs, as well as an award-winning outreach dental program. Our vision is to improve the health outcomes for all Tasmanians with a specific focus on remote and rural areas.
We are one of six RFDS operating sections (Central Operations, QLD section, South Eastern section, Victorian section, Western Operations and Tasmania section) which make up RFDS Australia. About the role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Adult Mental Health Worker to join our mental health team. Specialising in the provision of adult mental health to provide mild to moderate services including providing treatment, support and education to individuals living in the Dorset Community.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering evidence based psychological interventions within the community.
This is a permanent part time position, however we are happy to discuss other alternatives.
Duties
- Promote mental health and reduce the risk or severity of mental health disorders among older people who are not necessarily identified as clients receiving services through the mental health system.
- Provide multi-modal treatments and interventions to support adults, their families and significant others.
- Deliver care coordination, case management supports and transfer of care services.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver specialised adult mental health strategies to support community capacity and building health promotion in person’s local community.
- Develop, coordinate and facilitate local and wider networking and support channels.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Operate in accordance with relevant legislation affecting clinical practice, maintaining an informed understanding of the National Standards for Mental Health Services and practices.

Travel
This role will require travel to rural communities and include some additional regional work where required. Flexibility by negotiation, may be required to work within future (or other) regions to meet growth needs or programs and service delivery.

What you will need
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling, mental health nursing, social worker or similar (Cert 4 or greater)
- Experience working with adults in the provision of evidence-based treatments of mental health
- Exception interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to engage, liaise and interact effectively with multiple stakeholders
- An understanding of the health and wellbeing issues in rural and remote communities
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- A thorough understanding of recovery orientated values/principles and trauma-informed practice/experience
- Proven ability to effectively perform both autonomously and in a team based working environment
- Reliable, with high integrity and a strong work ethic
Compliance
- Current Tasmanian Drivers Licence
- Working with Vulnerable People Card (NDIS Screening)
- Current National Police Check (Schedule A)
- Visa to work in Australia
- Current Vaccinations
