Based at the Launceston Airport, Western Junction, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Tasmania was officially formed in 1960, and has steadily grown over the past 60 years from a solely aeromedical service into a holistic health care provider servicing almost every municipality in the state.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Adult Mental Health worker to join RFDS on a part-time basis, working four days per week. This position will be offered as a maximum term contract until June 2023, working in the Glamorgan Spring Bay municipality on the East Coast of Tasmania.

In this role, the successful incumbent will provide mild to moderate mental health services, including providing treatment, support and education to individuals living in the Glamorgan Spring Bay community.  The incumbent will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and deliver evidence-based mental health support and recovery focused intervention.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Mental Health, this position is part of a greater team in Tasmania, Including other specialist staff across various RFDS programs. You will have support from the team through regular staff meetings, access to clinical support/advice and team professional development opportunities. 

Remuneration will be dependent on experience and in accordance with the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020.  A shared vehicle will be available for you to travel to and from the municipal locations and RFDS offers some great benefits including salary packaging options, paid professional development, laptop, phone and office spaces on the beautiful East Coast of Tasmania.

About You

For your application to be considered, you must have tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work, as well as experience working with adults in the provision of evidence-based treatments. You will have a thorough understanding of recovery orientated values/principles and trauma informed practice/experience.  Further, you will have the ability to conduct needs assessments and planning and have completed suicide prevention training

You will understand health and wellbeing issues in rural and remote communities and the impact these issues may have.

You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and gain trust with adults utilising our service.  You will have effective time management skills and be able to manage multiple deadlines.

Finally, you will have a Tasmanian Drivers Licence, First Aid Certificate, Current National Police Check, Working with Vulnerable People Check and up-to-date COVID- 19 vaccinations.  It is also desirable that you hold a professional body membership.
