The Role
An opportunity has become available for an Advanced Peer Worker – Mental Health (Lived Experience -Identified) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Support consumers through transition points, such as triage, assessment, admission to a mental health or medical ward, and discharge and/or transfer of care to community mental health teams
- Utilise well-developed communication and consultation skills to work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team
- Develop and deliver initiatives and strategies that improve understanding of mental illness, personal recovery and strengths-based practice to enhance the quality of treatment and care provided to consumers
- Guide, orientate and mentor AO3 Peer Workers
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, be a person with lived experience of mental illness, service use and recovery
- A lived/living experience of mental illness, service use and recovery and able to use this experience to support others living with mental health and substance use challenges
- A Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or can demonstration of working towards obtaining this qualification is highly desirable
- Diver Licence
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against – Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Hepatitis B and COVID 19
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent part time (64 hrs p.f)
- Base salary ranging from $42.76 – $47.11 per hour

The Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Team is a Lived Experience Team. The team provides a responsive program of recovery-oriented peer support, education and information for consumers, families and carers. The team’s goal is to increase consumer, family and carer participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health services. Based in Southport.
