About The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre

We are a leading organisation offering a comprehensive suite of services to clients and the community across the Barwon, West Melbourne and Wimmera Regions. Providing specialist sexual assault and family violence programs and services, including 24 hour crisis care support, case management, therapeutic counselling, early intervention and professional education and training, we continue to grow and develop our offerings.

About The Role

This position is responsible to provide a specialist crisis care after hours’ service for adults, young people and children experiencing sexual assault and women and children experiencing family violence. The role works on a rostered, on call basis on weekends, weeknights and public holidays and is required to participate in monthly team meetings, debriefing, group supervision, annual performance and development reviews and training.

The core functions of the role include:

  • Attend at a police station or hospital (in a COVID safe way) to conduct an assessment to ensure safety, accommodation, mental health and other immediate needs are addressed until the next business day.
  • Provide accurate information and facilitate access to medical and legal options, emergency assistance and appropriate accommodation.
  • Liaise, consult and advocate where necessary with Victoria Police, forensic medical services, nursing and medical staff, accommodation providers and other professionals as required.
  • Consult with line management for issues requiring clarification or authorisation.
  • Document case notes and record statistical information immediately after a callout.
  • Facilitate a referral to our business hours’ intake service and provide external referral information, as appropriate.

Reporting to a Team Leader, you will be supported by highly skilled and qualified practitioners and receive regular support.

About You

With degree qualifications in psychology, family therapy or social work, you will be able to demonstrate a minimum of one year experience in a similar role.

You will be committed to a minimum of 6 shifts per month.
