Key duties and responsibilities
- Work in partnership within a multi-disciplinary remote Primary Health Care (PHC) team and other professionals to provide and promote a comprehensive PHC service in the AOD program.
- Undertake a caseload management approach providing a range of AOD treatment options, ongoing support including the management of day-to-day operations of the outreach AOD treatment and withdrawal services.
- Participate in and facilitate education and professional development in AOD to Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs), PHC staff, new staff members and AHP/health students.
- To act as a conduit between the Alice Springs and other AOD agency staff in the provision of AOD services in remote areas.
- Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
- Recognised qualifications in Social Work which provides for the eligibility of membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AAWS) or recognised qualifications
- Proven ability to provide highly effective assessment, case management, withdrawal services and other treatment intervention services for people experiencing problems with their own substance misuse and their families.
- High level knowledge of applying theories and models to work with clients to identify potential harms and change substance use behaviours in a primary health care setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision and ability to work within a primary health care setting, having a non-judgmental and empathetic approach towards clients and staff.
- Experience in facilitating and delivering a range of health promotion and education programs in both community and clinic settings, utilising community development principles and framework.
- Knowledge of the challenges, barriers and opportunities of working within a culturally and linguistically diverse environment, especially pertaining to Aboriginal communities.
- Hold a current manual driver’s licence and willingness and ability to travel regularly by road or light aircraft and reside within remote communities in the Barkly and Central Australia regions on a regular basis.
