Your Opportunity
Mission Australia’s Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) provide young people and their families’ access to a comprehensive range of free and confidential alcohol and other drug services. Its focus is to provide both physical and emotional safety and wellbeing during their engagement.
Based in East Perth, the Young Person Opportunity Program (YPOP) is an outreach voluntary service available to all young people between the ages of 12-18 engaged with a Juvenile Justice Team (JJT) who would benefit from learning more on the impact on their health, livelihood, and wellbeing. This service provides between 1 to 3 counselling sessions based on justice requirements to offenders, or those who do not have extensive criminal history who have drug related problems.
You will be someone who has a passion for working with young people in rehabilitation who often face complex issues.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Respond to referrals from Juvenile Justice Teams and coordinate case allocations.
- Complete assessments and intake processes for allocated people, including all necessary documentation and data entry.
- Advise the young person of the requirements, their rights, and responsibilities.
- Provide brief intervention and Drug and Alcohol Education
- Advocacy and referral to other suitable supplemental services.
- Demonstrated professional approach to maintaining professional boundaries.
- Complete a range of other administrative duties for the efficient running of the service including statistics, reports, referral letters, goal plans etc.
- Provide accurate and objective court reports on each young persons engagement in the program to the JJT within required time frames.
Requirements for Success
With a significant background in Youth Services with AOD experience and Community Services and/or Mental Health sectors, you will be confident in your case management and assessment processes. Other requirements include:
- A Degree or Diploma in Youth Work/Social Welfare/Social Science and a minimum of one year experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience providing outreach, case management, case coordination, assessment, counselling, and crisis intervention skills, including working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues, mental health issues, mental health crisis and working with intoxicated people.
- Strong evidence-based knowledge of AOD use and impacts along with expertise in working with trauma-informed practices.
- Ability to provide outreach engagement and support with young people experiencing risk factors in their life. This will require perseverance, flexibility, and innovation.
- The ability to work autonomously and create strong positive and effective relationships with key external stakeholders.
- Strong administration and report-writing ability.
- Evidence of up to date Covid 19 vaccination.
- Must have Full driver licence with no restrictions.
