The AOD Centre Based Counselling team is responsible for the provision of specialist alcohol and other drug therapeutic counselling using evidence based psychological interventions and secondary consultation primarily in the Bayside Catchment. The counselling team provides treatment currently at four locations: Prahran, St Kilda, South Melbourne and Bentleigh. A fortnightly after-hours clinic operates at our Prahran site to provide flexible and responsive service. We provide regular individual supervision, reflective practice opportunities and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide person-centered, therapeutic evidence based psychological interventions, including assessment, treatment planning and referral, to individual clients, family members and significant others. Modes of delivery will include face to face (individualised or group), phone, and interactive online counselling where appropriate.
  • Participate in a fortnightly after-hours service for clients who are unable to attend appointments during regular business hours.
  • Participate in collaborative working relationships with service users, family and significant others, complementary programs and services for the development of integrated service delivery and care planning.
  • Participate in case allocation, case review and exit planning processes.
  •  Identify and refer vulnerable children involved with any client of the AOD service.

Requirements and attributes:

  • Bachelor or higher qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.
  • Core Competencies in AOD.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of different therapeutic interventions and models.
  • Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic approaches in counselling and matching stages of treatment to stages of change.
  • Comprehensive understanding of harm reduction principles and practice.
  • Sound organisational, analytical and time management skills.
