AOD Counsellor – 1 year contract (35 hours per week) SDECC

JOB DESCRIPTION

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Sydney Drug Education and Counselling Centre (SDECC) as an AOD Counsellor.

SDECC is a centre of excellence that provides evidence based, outcome focussed counselling and support services for young people aged 12 to 25 years with problematic use of alcohol and other drugs, and their families. Our Treatment model focuses on harm reduction, working to keep young people safe, out of hospital, out of the criminal justice system, contributing to their community and achieving their potential. SDECC is based in in Northern Sydney with offices in St Leonards and Manly.

The Counsellor is responsible for providing evidence based psychological assessment and comprehensive treatment plans for our clients, many of whom have multiple and complex needs.

The Counsellor also contributes to a multidisciplinary approach to treatment within a family inclusive, trauma informed framework.

Essential:

  • Degree in social work or psychology, or equivalent, from a recognised tertiary institution
  • At least 2 years of counselling experience 
  • Demonstrated successful experience in counselling young people
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and client outcome measures
  • Demonstrated high standard of communication skills in areas of oral and written, including clinical case presentation skills, record keeping, and report writing 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of contemporary drug and alcohol interventions and approaches. 
  • Knowledge of family systems and the ability to work within a family inclusive approach
  • Experience in working within the NGO sector
