About the role:
We are looking for 2 x AOD Counsellors who will provide assessment, counselling, case management and education to clients dealing with the impact of alcohol and other drug use and mental health issues. This will involve developing recovery plans to help that client process towards their goals.
One of the Counselling roles will be a dual role, including mentoring, court support, referrals, and other practical assistance. From this role a client and their family will be able to talk to a Diversion Officer, who is also a trained drug and alcohol counsellor for support. You will work collaboratively with Youth Justice and other local agencies with the goal of achieving Harm Minimisation and Behaviour Change, to see outcomes such as young people re-engaged in education and participate in therapeutic programs.
Requirements of the role:
For the dual role of Counsellor and Diversion officer Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this role, as stated in the Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. In addition the successful candidate will have a tertiary or equivalent qualification in Social, Behavioral or Health Sciences with significant experience in counselling. We ae looking for someone who has the capability to motivate, empower and lead clients to achieve positive change in their lives. Being a person who is has a person centred, strength-based perspective and empowerment approach will see you do well in this role. You will also be committed to upholding HOPE’s values and to working in a culturally secure way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and individuals.
