Your Opportunity
The Djindigal (meaning Healing Place) service is a 10-bedroom facility in between Mareeba and Kuranda. The service aims to provide a way for people who have self-identified substance use concerns, to take control of their use and reduce the negative impacts on their life. The service will empower and equip them to achieve their individual goals relating to their substance use, and to be able to continue their recovery journey for a further 6 months after leaving the residential setting. This may look different for different people including goals relating to safer use/harm minimisation, reducing use or ceasing use.
We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Counsellor to provide specialised support to clients who participate in the Djindigal Residential Rehabilitation Service.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide clients with individual counselling
- Assist to develop group counselling sessions to meet the needs of services
- Arrange appropriate referrals for clients to other services
- Provide assessment advice to the Practice Leader
- Maintain current funding and reporting requirements of the funding agreement
- Respond to and provide advice in the event of mental health emergencies as required
Requirements for Success
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Psychology, Social Work degree, or other relevant Allied Health qualification including Counselling Diploma).
- Demonstrated relevant counselling experience ideally within the AOD sector
- Proven ability to build strong, professional client relationships and community networks
- Previous experience supporting people from a variety of different backgrounds and levels of disadvantage
- The willingness and ability to undertake Smart Recovery Australia’s Facilitation Training and apply this to practice
- Current First Aid certificate
- Evidence of full Covid 19 vaccination
