AOD Practitioner

Yaandina Community Services are the largest local provider of community services in the Pilbara. We are currently seeking an AOD Practitioner who has relevant experience for our alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service. We are looking for someone who can work in a team environment for the betterment of people affected by AOD. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of the AOD Practitioner is to ensure that program service delivery and integrity of the TC program with “Community as Method” and evidence based interventions are implemented by providing group education and therapy to community members treating their dependency issues.

Also ensure the social and emotional health needs of clients are met.

Duties:

  • To provide evidence-based therapeutic assessments, interventions and clinical techniques in partnership with clients whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug use, dependency and dual diagnosis disorders.
  • Accurately record and keep documentation relating to client contact/activities, group activities and interventions on Client Management System (Fixus) and other records as required.
  • Function as an effective member of the Turner River Rehabilitation Centre team, providing professional clinical services to clients, with a commitment to developing and maintaining clinical skills, knowledge and expertise.
  • Facilitate and/or attend meetings within the community, including staff, program, community and treatment planning/clinical meetings
  • Perform requisite functions related to being a ‘Key Worker’ for a caseload of clients, including accurate and regular case noting, therapeutic planning, case reviews, exit paperwork and procedures, amongst other duties.
  • Provide support and assistance to Clinical Lead, support workers, administration staff and others as directed by the Manager or Clinical Lead 
  • To contribute to the organisation’s continuous quality improvement and Health and Safety programs to ensure both a safe working environment for staff and clients and organisational compliance with legislation.
  • To maintain knowledge and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relevance and importance of acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this country (to the organisation and to own clinical practice), and their connection to the land, water community and paying respect to them, their cultures and customs, and to Elders both past and present.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Science, Nursing Mental health or Counselling and be eligible for registration with AHPRA. 
  • Experience working in a Therapeutic Community highly desirable
  • Minimum 3-years’ experience in working with clients within a case management framework.
  • Experience with developing and delivering life skills, recreation and educational programs
  • Experience engaging and supporting people who have been impacted by former drug and alcohol challenges and seeking recovery
  • Experience and passion for quality innovative learning and wellbeing environments.

 

  • Experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience working with Aboriginal clients and in Aboriginal communities is compulsory
  • Cultural (Australian) training and certifications essential (even though we provide this in due course, I want to know up-front that potential employees have been exposed to this training and understand the implications and intricacies of Australian cultural sensitivity and appropriateness) 
  • Evidence of an up-to-date COVID Vaccination in accordance with the current Public Health Directive 
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Current police clearance no more than 3 months old
