Behaviour Coach CRAMLI Counselling and Wellbeing Services

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Behaviour Coach is responsible for providing assistance to Behaviour Support Practitioners in supporting young people and adults with a disability, their families and their support networks through a positive behaviour support approach. The support will be analysing data, collating the data and inputting the data into tables. The Behaviour Coach can also assist with strategy building, along with implementation of the strategies by way of training Support Workers, Carers etc. 

Our Behaviour Support service helps participants, their families and other informal supports, to understand what their behaviour is trying to communicate and implement strategies to better meet those needs. Behaviour Support Practitioners work with participants and families to identify their needs, including assessment and individual planning in line with the NDIS approach for Behaviour Support. These specialists develop meaningful goals and practical strategies so that participants can achieve their goals at home and in the community. 

Behaviour Support Practitioners are expert allied health professionals, who have experience in working within a multi-disciplinary model with a range of other therapists to provide a holistic and integrated approach. These specialists provide clinical advice and guidance to participants, families and support staff. The Behaviour Coach can play a pivotal role in assisting the Behaviour Support Practitioner. 

Behaviour Coaches must, at all times, abide and follow the: 

  • NDIS Code of Conduct 
  • NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework Workers must be approved as NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioners by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • Worker Screening of the following items and documentation must be provided: 
    • Working With Children Check 
    • Valid Australian driver’s licence (P Plate or above) 
    • NDIS Worker Clearance Check 
    • National Police Check

NDIS Worker Orientation and Induction

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide advice and support regarding the implementation of positive behaviour support plans, person-centred practice and a customer service approach
  • Train and supports staff to develop and implement positive behaviour support strategies
  • Work with the community and stakeholders to identify and access appropriate health resources for customers and their families
  • In a thorough, professional, timely and competent manner with the degree of skill, care and diligence expected of an experienced professional in providing the same or similar services.
  • In accordance with all relevant work, health and safety legislation and any work health and safety practices and all other policies of CRAMLI so that the Services are fit for their intended purpose and in accordance with the Service Delivery Requirements (SDR) and in accordance with CRAMLI relevant policies and procedures.
  • Professional standard and ability to work independently without support in the development of reports, letters, and plans to ensure it is based on evidence-based practices, sound in science and person-centred. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the NDIS and disability services and other relevant legislation, regulations, disability service standards, industry trends, and management principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of the needs of people with a disability, including knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies, and significant experience in working with people with intellectual, physical, and comorbidities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), mental health and offending behaviour.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, such as support coordinators, speech pathologist etc
  • Assisting participants, along with their families and/or carers, to identify needs through a person-centred approach in a community-based setting based on evidence-based practices.
  • Develop and deliver behaviour support services in accordance with the NDIS safeguards framework, particularly regarding restrictive practices.
  • Ensuring individual plans reflect our NDIS participants’ goals, passions, and strengths, as well as ensuring they get more out of life.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure. This includes dealing with your own case list of approximately 17-25 clients (or more).
  • The development of an annual continued professional development plan based on the skills and knowledge outlined within the 2019 ‘Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework for NDIS providers and behaviour support practitioners.
  • The utilization of participants funding in an effective, high quality and person-centred way.
  • The implementation of all components of the 2019 ‘Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework for NDIS providers and behaviour support practitioners. This includes but is not limited to the 7 core domains of positive behaviour support outlined in this framework:
    • Interim Response
    • Functional Assessment
    • Planning
    • Implementation
    • Know it Works
    • Reduce and Eliminate Restrictive Practice
    • Continuing Professional Development and Supervision.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification (Diploma) in human services, allied health, psychology or a related field 

Essential

  • Minimum of 4 hours of client engagement per working day (CEH)
  • Registration as a behavioural practitioner 
  • Able to travel across Melbourne and surrounding suburbs
