Safe Places for Children leads the way in providing residential Out of Home Care services to young people, who have experienced complex, developmental trauma and exhibit complex emotional and behavioural problems, with intensive therapeutic, trauma-informed support. Through providing small, stable and consistent care teams we tailor our approach to the young person to promote an environment that fosters trust, stabilise behaviours of concern and give young people a sense of hope and direction for their future.

About the role
The Behaviour Support Practitioner will work directly with senior management and front-line teams across NSW to support and guide the service in providing therapeutic care to young people we support, informed by Safe Places for Children Integrated Practice Framework, evidence-based practice and innovations in therapeutic, trauma-informed care and their own Clinician knowledge and experience.

You will be an important part of a multidisciplinary team relied upon to develop and maintain high level Behavioural Support Plans for young people in collaboration with relevant stakeholders supporting our young people’s cognitive & learning abilities, living skills, emotional & mental health status, and behavioural profiles.

Be an inspiring and influential leader when facilitating Complex Case Clinics with efforts to provide debriefing and post-crisis support for frontline teams to have sensitive, reparative interactions for young people through reflective practices.

About you

  • An understanding (based on advanced training/qualifications and a body of knowledge on recognised theoretical approaches) of the impact of trauma, disrupted attachment and abuse/neglect on a child or young person’s development and wellbeing. 
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to negotiate and resolve issues with young people, teams, Senior Managers and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain equilibrium, make decisions, be flexible in responding to changing priorities, work unsupervised, accept responsibility and with integrity and act on directives.
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with a foundation of trust and compassion and to influence and guide best practice.
  • A high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence
