About the Role
As part of our Welfare and Engagement Team, you will report to the local Welfare and Engagement Manager within an Immigration Detention Facility (IDF). You will provide positive behaviour support services to detainees with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and other complex diagnosis.
You will provide professional information and advice to detainees with complex needs, staff, and other relevant stakeholders within the Immigration Detention Centre regarding evidence-based approaches to reducing the impact and frequency of challenging behaviours. Contribute to the overall success of welfare services available to detainees, conduct comprehensive assessment relevant to the detainee’s presenting issues, needs and circumstances as well as Functional Behaviour Analysis to assist in the development and implementation of the Detainee Behaviour Support Plan.
You will support complex case and critical incident reviews and provide support to site-based W&E personnel to identify and support detainees identified as at risk.
Permanent full-time working 38 hrs a week Mon – Fri, with flexibility to work on call when required to meet business needs.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in psychology, counselling, social science or other related fields
- Ability to conduct functional behaviour assessment and design function-based behaviour support plans
- Experience using evidence-based interventions/strategies and person-centred approach in managing challenging behaviours
- Minimum of 3 years (full time equivalent) experience working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner and providing positive behaviour support
- Experience in working with people with complex needs including, complex trauma, adults and the elderly with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and other complex and mental health diagnoses
- Experience in working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and different religious backgrounds
- Ability to develop and conduct psychological/psychoeducation programs
- Understand the principles of Positive Behaviour Support
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification
- Working with Children Check relevant to individual state
- National police check (AFP)
- Current Drivers Licence
