Bereavement Counsellor
Permanent part time, 22.5 hours per week

The Red Tree Foundation (previously known as SIDS and Kids SA) provides free grief counselling and bereavement support for South Australian families impacted by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child from conception to 17 years of age. We provide families with the tools to navigate their new life – thereby helping parents to live after loss.
The Position
Red Tree Foundation is able offer the role of bereavement counsellor to join the current team to maintain bereavement counselling and support services for South Australian families referred to us.
This role requires a flexible and committed individual that can work with warmth, maturity and integrity to provide bereavement counselling and support services. Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Providing face to face, phone and telehealth bereavement counselling and support as required by the client.
- Undertaking professional assessment of individual and family needs with the provision of appropriate intervention and referral where necessary.
- Providing accurate and relevant information to clients and links to other families or support workers as required.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records.
- Planning and implementation of groups and special events for families and individuals.
The Person
We are looking for the following skill set/qualities:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification – Bachelor of Counselling with eligibility for clinical registration with PACFA or ACA or Bachelor of Social Work with post graduate qualification in bereavement counselling with eligibility for clinical registration with AASW or Bachelor of Psychology with post graduate qualification in bereavement counselling with eligibility for clinical registration with APS or AHPRA.
- Demonstrated experience in grief and loss service delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality counselling services.
- Comprehensive understanding of grief and bereavement best practice
Desirable:
- Certification as a Certified Bereavement Practitioner (CBP)
- Extensive skills and experience in the provision of bereavement counselling for child loss.
Personal Skills:
- Comfortable working with a small team and able to foster a collaborative work environment.
- Ability to be able to put people at ease and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people both internal and external.
- Reliable, flexible, multi-skilled with a can-do attitude.
- Passionate about helping families after child loss.
- Demonstrated ability to work without supervision.
