THE OPPORTUNITY

Catholic Schools Office and CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning has formed a collaborative partnership to enhance the wellbeing of students and their families.

The School Caseworker will be an employee of CatholicCare Social Services Hunter Manning (Clinical Services Team) but will be based at All Saints’ College in the Wellbeing Team. In this role you may be required to travel across school areas. this role will be offered in a temporary full-time capacity with view to permanency.

Key Tasks:

  • You will support and encourage vulnerable students to remain linked up with the schools and work collaboratively with external agencies to create referral pathways for students and families to child and family support agencies.
  • Be involved in community outreach and home visiting while working alongside families to enhance their engagement in services.
  • Enhance the link between the schools and students and collaborate with the wellbeing team, learning support team and the school counselling service to enhance student wellbeing and learning outcomes.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Catholic Schools Office and CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning has formed a collaborative partnership to enhance the wellbeing of students and their families attending specific High Schools and feeder Primary Schools. The Beyond the Gates worker will be an employee of CatholicCare Social Services Hunter Manning (Clinical Services Team) but will be based at the nominated School in the Wellbeing Teams. The purpose of this position is to support and encourage vulnerable students to remain linked up with the schools and the wider communities. The role will involve community outreach and home visiting while working alongside families to enhance their engagement in services. The role will enhance the link between the schools and students. Catholic Schools are recognised as safe, disciplined, welcoming and caring communities, where paramount importance is given to building and nurturing quality relationships. Beyond the Gates extends this support and care into communities. The role will require some out of business hours work to create the best opportunities for engagement. It will also require networking activities with a range of other services across surrounding communities.

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Commitment to work alongside CatholicCare’s mission, vision and values
  • An ability to effectively engage with disconnected students and their families
  • Sound understanding of Case Management and Case Coordination and person centred practices
  • A good understanding of the contributing factors to various types of disadvantage
  • An understanding of the current issues that many children and young people are facing
  • A clear understanding of child and adolescent development
  • A thorough understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a range of diverse stake holders
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • A high level of motivation and commitment to achieving outcomes
  • Willingness and ability to travel across school areas with flexible hours based on student and family needs
  • Experience in outcomes data collection
  • Access to use of a car with full comprehensive insurance

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary Qualifications Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Teaching or similar disciplines
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • A commitment to work within WHS guidelines
  • Successful applicants must undergo a Police check
  • NSW Driver Licence
