Salary: Counsellor – $70,944.00 – 101,211.00, Social Worker – $70,944.00 – 98,156.00, Psychologist – $74,742.00 – $109,391.00

About the role:
The Youth Worker will work as part of the Burton Street Centre, Alcohol and Drug Service, St Vincent’s Health Sydney. This position will be responsible for delivering high quality, professional treatment to young people who use drugs of concern. This position is responsible for engaging young people and/or their families, in brief intervention, case management, and counselling-based treatment as well as providing early intervention and working within a harm minimisation framework. The position is required to ensure that appropriate treatment is conducted in consultation with clients of the service including the development of care plans, gathering of outcome measures and participating in clinical review processes. The Youth Worker will work closely with the Burton Street Centre Youth and Family Counsellor, Family Worker, Social Worker and Youth Counsellor.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Allied Health, Psychology, social work or other relevant behavioural sciences and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association
  3. Demonstrated relevant clinical experience including assessment, brief interventions, case management and counselling for young people with drug and alcohol problems and/or co-existing mental health issues.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction and strengths-based approaches in working with substance use.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of the issues and challenges faced by young people presenting with Drug and Alcohol problems
  6. Demonstrated experience in working with a range of service providers and advocating for best quality care for young people/service users
  7. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills and capacity to apply these skills in a youth Drug and Alcohol service.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
