The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a CAMHS Clinician – Extended Hours vacancy.

Please note this position is also being advertised as a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Extended Hours (526811) and only one position will be filled on merit.

We are seeking passionate and dynamic mental health professionals to join us at the forefront of child and adolescent mental health service development in Tasmania.  Our vision is to provide world class, innovative mental health care to support our children and young people live life to the fullest with the best possible health and social outcomes.

This role is within the CAMHS Hospital Consultation & Liaison team which provide assessment in the Emergency Department when young people present with mental health concerns, or management, guidance, treatment for when young people are admitted.  The service operates across 7 days until 10 pm.

The CAMHS Clinician – Extended Hours:

• Works within the designated region, within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated services to young people and their carers undertaking a triage, crisis, intake and assessment role and the development and implementation of care planning for designated clients in both the community and the ED.
• Completes mental state assessment, risk assessment and discharge planning in collaboration with psychiatric and paediatric services within ED and inpatient facilities to support timely discharge, and assists as required with 7-day follow up requirements.
• In collaboration with other staff within Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, the broader Mental Health Services, Tasmania Police and Tasmanian Ambulance Service and a range of community service providers, to deliver improved outcomes for young people presenting with mental illness, including those presenting to the Emergency Department (ED).
• Is a clinical expert who acts as a clinical resource for staff and other providers involved in the management of patients with mental health concerns, including those with concurrent alcohol or drug use issues.

The Role:

• Provide discipline specific clinical expertise, supportive advice and clinical care across the broader community including in-reach into the ED as required, based on best practice principles and legal and professional requirements, using specialist assessment and screening tools to deliver improved outcomes for patients presenting with mental health concerns and/or addiction-related comorbidities.
• Provide treatment recommendations and specialist support to the multidisciplinary team, other health professionals and community support organisations as required and assist with clinical decision making and the planning, implementation and evaluation of care given to mental health patients to facilitate a person-centred and recovery focused approach.
• Provide support and psycho-education as appropriate and involve consumers and their families/significant others in the identification of their needs, formulation of goals, development of care plans and the implementation of care.
• Facilitate access to a range of appropriate community and inpatient services to ensure patients receive the right support in the right place and at the right time. Provide comprehensive handovers and coordinate quality and safe transfer/discharge processes.

Position Features:

• Seven days a week, “Late shift”

Details of Appointment:

Fixed term, full time, shift work position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until 30 December 2023.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Base Salary: $96,689 to $114,391 per annum + 10.5% superannuation

• Please note that access to salaries beyond $105,245 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme 

• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Professional Development Allowance of up to $724 per annum for the ability to accrue fund up to five years
• Post graduate qualification salary advancement where applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

• Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or
• Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or
• Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.
• Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
• Current Driver’s Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

• Holds or is working towards relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Five or more years’ post graduate clinical experience
