About the role:

Rewarding opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as our Career Counsellor until June 2024!

The Career Counsellor is a member of the Skills and Jobs Centre Team, one of the specialised teams in the Employment Initiatives department within the Strategic Engagement division. Within this role you will be providing career counselling services to new individual Skills and Jobs Centre clients and work with clients to assist them in achieving positive outcomes such as a career plan, employment opportunities and training commencement for upskilling or reskilling.

This position will focus on a number of specific cohorts including vulnerable groups that have barriers to success in gaining sustainable employment. You will work closely with individuals to maximise future success in identifying appropriate career choices and skills development.

You will have the opportunity to liaise with a number of stakeholders including our Senior Koorie Liaison Officers to identify engagement leads for local indigenous communities, parents returning to work those facing retrenchment. This role will also be supporting the development of resources for workshops and events as well as providing support to other areas within the Skills and Jobs Centre.

The Career Counsellor role is a highly rewarding position and is based at our Lilydale campus. There will be travel involved to our other campuses in Box Hill and other locations as well.

About You:

  • Graduate Certificate of Career Development, and/or equivalent CICA listed qualification
  • A degree or relevant post graduate qualification
  • Recent and relevant experience within a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with clients and utilise a range of employment services to achieve positive outcomes
  • Drivers licence- travel will be involved across a number of campuses and external locations
  • Proven experience in accurately recording client and service details in a client management system used for reporting purposes against key performance indicators
  • Ability to motivate and further develop work area colleagues in best practice career development skills
  • Self-motivated to acquire and manage own caseload to ensure achievement of successful outcomes and contribute to a high performing team
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly build excellent rapport with clients and relevant stakeholders to maximise information gathering in appointments and understand stakeholder needs and requirements

You will need to provide or be willing to obtain a current National Police Records Check, a Working with Children Check, Passport, evidence of your entitlement to work in Australia, and certified copies of your qualifications.
