About this role:

The Career  Development Practitioner will be responsible for campus based career development initiatives will be a point of contact for students when preparing for the workforce and will link career and subject choice to independent learning. 

Job tasks and responsibilities:

  • Work in consultation with both the Career Development Coordinator and other campus-based Career Development Department members on a regular basis, in providing a consistent service for all campuses, while tailoring information and opportunities specific to the needs of the campus.
  • Promote the Career Development Centre with creative and innovative approaches.
  • Assist students with the VTAC admission process, as well as other relevant tertiary entrance resources.
  • Coordinate the management and implementation of college wide work experience program to compliment future career choices.
  • Schedule individual and group appointments with senior students to provide professional assistance in career and tertiary guidance.
  • Support parents & caregivers by empowering them to provide unbiased, informed and accurate assistance in developing career aspirations that their child is interested in.
  • Assist campus Year Level Coordinators and Teaching & Learning Coordinators in supporting students who have low academic outcomes.
  • Analyse campus based trends and data on tertiary offers and student choices.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Registration with Career Education Association Victoria (CEAV) or other Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) member association.
  • Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching desirable but not necessary; if not VIT registered, a Working With Children clearance is essential.
  • Hold a graduate certificate in career development education or Certificate IV in career development education or postgraduate qualification endorsed by the CICA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of VET in the VCE program.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills including public speaking and addressing large groups of parents and students.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of the VTAC process and tertiary selection, or the willingness to learn such information.
