Automotive Industry Career Mentor – (2 Year Contract)
The Motor Trade Association Training and Employment Centre is the peak training organisation for the automotive industry, training near 1000 apprentices and trainees, and has an excellent reputation as both a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and a Group Training Organisation (GTO) within the Motor Industry.
The MTA currently is recruiting for a suitably qualified Automotive Industry Career Mentor for a full time period of 2 years.
This role is newly created, and it will report directly to the General Manager Apprentice Employment Services. The role will predominately be based at the MTA’s Royal Park site, however there will be travel requirements within industry and remotely to other MTA sites.
To be considered in this role, you will need to have previous (or similar) industry experience in mentoring and or careers counselling, across diverse stakeholders as you will be required to initially support apprentices through the first and second year of their apprenticeship. You will also be required to network and advocate for apprentices and their employers by coming up with new ideas and strategies to better support the engagement and retention of apprentices in the industry. Collaboration will be a key requirement as you will be required to partner with other internal stakeholders across the MTA to achieve the required outcomes.
Experience in problem solving, negotiating and relationship management is a must. Mediation with apprentices and employers will be a core part of the role, ensuring positive working relationships and a safe and supportive workplace throughout the first two years of the apprenticeship.
You also must have strong interpersonal skills and have experience in building trusted relationships with apprentices (youth) and employers alike.
Reporting and compliance will play a key part of this role. You must be IT savvy and very competent and experienced in keeping accurate up to date records in accordance with relevant legislation for each of your cases.
Inclusive of what is outlined above, to be considered for this role, it is desirable that you have the following and qualifications:
- Counselling or Career Mentoring qualifications;
- Demonstrated experience in planning, initiating, developing and implementing, mentoring programs;
- Experience working with and mentoring automotive apprentices;
- Solid report keeping and presenting skills;
- A current driver’s licence.
