The Role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Careers Counsellor to join the Careers Team at our Wheelers Hill Campus in a permanent part-time role (0.5), commencing January 2024. 

Reporting to the Head of Careers, the Careers Counsellor will abide by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners and CEAV Code of Ethics, the Careers Counsellor contributes to the smooth running of Careers for the campus while liaising closely with external and internal stakeholders to ensure a well-informed pathway for students. 

The Careers Counsellor practices a comprehensive one to one counselling service in the areas of careers and course (both internal and postschool) choice and provides information and options to students, parents, staff and Grammarians. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Establish, build and communicate appropriate career pathways for Senior School students and their parents 
  • Develop and create new networks between industry, tertiary institutions and the CGS community to ensure that our students are fully informed about their future choices and goals 
  • Provide education to Middle and Senior School staff regarding counselling students about career choice and subject choice 
  • Comply with administrative and organisational requirements including the management of financial resources 
  • Model best practice, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work well with different stakeholders 
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours 

To be successful in this role: 

  • You will be highly organised, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and will enjoy working with young people in assisting them to identify and achieve their study and career goals. 
  • You will possess up-to-date knowledge of University selection procedures, the range of tertiary study options available to students as well as other post-secondary options.
  • Be able to work as part of a dedicated and passionate team and immerse yourself in our school. 
  • Have suitable Careers Counselling qualifications 
  • Hold a current Employment Working With Children Check or VIT registration
