JOB DESCRIPTION

The position

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Careers Counsellor to provide expert advice and thought leadership to students and their parents to assist in making informed decisions about future pathways. This role is offered as an ongoing part time (0.6 FTE) position. Days of work are Tuesday and Wednesday with the third day negotiable to suit the candidate. 

The Careers Counsellor works in close liaison with the Director of Teaching and Learning, VCE Coordinator and the Heads of Year to inspire and motivate students to understand the ever-changing world of work and further education. Expert knowledge and strong collaboration skills are required to design and implement dynamic and innovative programs and partnerships which support our student’s aspirations and talents.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Engaging with students and parents to make informed decisions about future pathways
  • Develop and implement career exploration programs and workshops to introduce students to a variety of professions and industries
  • Provide one-on-one counselling sessions to help students identify their interests, strengths, and career goals
  • Work with students to guide subject selections aligned with their career aspirations
  • Organise and coordinate Careers Education events and programs for all year levels
  • Other responsibilities as outlined in the position description

About You

  • VIT registration highly regarded
  • Certificate IV in Career Development or Diploma in Careers Counselling
  • Professional association with ACCE (Australian Centre for Career Education) or CDAA (Career Development Association of Australia) preferred
  • Proven expertise and knowledge in careers counselling within a school setting
  • Excellent communication skills to a range of audiences
  • A collaborative approach with colleagues in planning and delivering programs
  • Proven experience in establishing and fostering relationships with students, staff and parents
