TAFE Gippsland’s Skills and Jobs Centre provides people with independent advice on study and job options; offering support to those who are looking for training, considering a career change, transitioning, or looking for work.

 

About the role

Career Counsellor will work closely with people impacted by the forestry transition to support people to find pathways into education and employment by guiding them to make decisions on what to study or what work or training they should consider based on their experience and personal interests.

The Careers Counsellor develops and delivers a career advisory service for potential and current clients/students of TAFE Gippsland’s Skills and Jobs Centres, to ensure appropriate selection of courses of study that promote successful outcomes for students. 

They apply their specialist knowledge and expertise to help Skills and Jobs Centres clients and support Skills and Jobs Advisors to grow their skills and impact by providing a framework and professional guidance.

The Skills and Job Centre is focused on delivering specialist support to job seekers, career changers, upskillers, reskillers and school leavers, helping them find their vocational niche or become workforce ready.

 

About you

  • High level verbal communication skills with the ability to gain trust, cooperation, and assistance from others
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all stakeholders

 

Qualifications and experience

  • A Degree in Career Development/Counselling with demonstrated practical experience is desirable, with demonstrate relevant practical work experience as a Careers Advisor
  • Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional association, e.g. Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA)

 

Mandatory requirements

  • Current Victorian Working with Children Clearance
  • Current Police Check (no older than 12 months old)
  • Current Driver’s Licence (some travel between campuses may be required)
  • Current COVID 19 Vaccination
  • 6 months probationary period applies
