Position Purpose 

The Careers Counsellor assists international students in selecting the courses /institutions that best suit their learning and career goals, guidance for career pathways, ensuring customer satisfaction and advocacy targets throughout their journey.

 

Job Description

  • Advise students about what courses and educational programs they need for chosen careers.
  • Counsel students who are considering a career change.
  • Provide information and advice to international students and their families regarding study opportunities in Australia, in English and other languages as applicable.
  • Submit applications to institutions, obtain offers and facilitate enrolments.
  • Evaluate student’s educational and work backgrounds to help them determine their career goals.
  • Guide students in determining their interests and abilities using a wide range of methods, such as aptitude assessments, interviews and planning materials.
  • Assist Student’s to craft a long-term career plan.
  • Help students locate sources of financial support to pay for school and other training programs.
  • Attending client’s feedback, inquiries and complaints in an appropriate and prompt manner and adhere to service standards.
  • Work with students to overcome issues that could undermine their academic or career success.
  • Maintain and update client’s database securely.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and other student services divisions to help achieve university-wide goals and contribute to its long-range planning.

Marketing / Events

  • Plan and publicize the career services centre’s programs and events such as workshops, job fairs, and orientation sessions.
  • Participate in educational and career marketing activities.
  • Handle and carry out sales and marketing activities / events for both online and offline such as roadshows, education fairs, career expos, virtual recruitment events, presentations, direct mailing and activity logistics.
  • Identify and market new educational and career opportunities to clients.
  • Keep yourself informed and updated with the changes in education and career market.
  • Promote and raise awareness of the VICPAK brand.

Public Relations

  • Conduct group workshops on a variety of topics, including writing resumes and cover letters, successful job interviewing, using university employment databases and career development resources, researching graduate programs, and more.
  • Build excellent relationships with representatives of education institutions and recruitment officers.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and other student services divisions to help achieve university-wide goals and contribute to its long-range planning.
  • Visit educational institutions and career expos and build relationships with institutions, representatives and other career counsellors.
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold at least one academic qualification in any discipline (Education / Marketing / Sociology / Psychology or Mass Communication degree holders are preferred)
  • Must be fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
  • Must have at least three years’ experience in mentoring and counselling, as a career counsellor.
  • Courteous, patient, and tactful personality with strong customer service orientations.
  • Possess a high level of initiative, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to go beyond expectations to help clients.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and use of database.
