JOB DESCRIPTION

Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia’s leading and most respected co-educational independent schools.  With an enrolment of 3,400 students from ECLC to Year 12, it comprises three metropolitan campuses in Melbourne, at St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley and Elsternwick, outdoor education sites at Chum Creek, Mallana, Lochend and a Year 9 residential campus at Clunes.

We are seeking an experienced educator and Careers Counsellor for this permanent, part-time (0.40FTE) position based at the Glen Waverley campus. This position is commencing in 2024.

The Careers Counsellor helps prepare students for the world of work and links career and subject choice to independent learning and provides careers education to students, which assists them to plan their future vocational direction and that is consistent with the Campus and College strategic vision. 

The Careers Counsellor will develop a program according to the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners including basing your career development service on the CEAV Code of Ethics.

In making this appointment, the College is seeking applicants who, among other qualities can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in establishing and building an appropriate careers pathway for Senior School students in conjunction with their families
  • The ability to develop existing networks and relationships between employers, tertiary institutions and the Wesley community to ensure that students are fully informed about their future choices and career goals
  • Expertise in providing education to Middle School/Senior School staff regarding counselling students about career choice and subject choice
  • Set up support structures for students on an on-going basis
  • Networking with Alumni groups
  • Development of a careers program in line with the Campus and College strategic vision
  • Development of curriculum related to the world of work, relevant to senior school students 

To be eligible for this position you must have the minimum entry level qualification for Professional Career Development Practitioners as outlined in the (CICA) Professional Standards for Australian Career, and have experience working in a similar school environment would be highly regarded.
