Careers Counselor (Personal Industry Coach) Australian Industry Trade College

JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you enjoy helping young people thrive and progress by providing first-line coaching, mentoring, and support?

Are you looking for a new position where you will make an impact?

Then this is the role for you!

The Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) is unlike any other senior school. We’re for young people who seek a deliberately different educational experience. An industry-driven one. For those who want to learn in the classroom, within workplaces and on the job. We’re for those young people who seek to start building real-world strengths and skills now, not only in the future.

We are now seeking a Personal Industry Coach (which is similar to a Careers Counselor) to join our Brisbane campus in a full-time (term time) capacity. The role of a Personal Industry Coach (PIC) is to provide first-line coaching, mentoring, and support to our young people on their journey to finding employment. You will work closely with young people who are having difficulties in demonstrating the AITC values and/or working with the employability metrics.  You will assist Team Leaders (Teachers) and Industry Consultants with young people not demonstrating engagement in the education/industry program.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following :

  • Coaching and mentoring young people in order to promote and create an environment of high expectations in terms of behaviours, attitudes, and performance.
  • Reviewing progress against academic and personal targets on an individual basis in line with the employability metrics, and promoting the metrics through guidance and mentoring.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for parents and young people reaching out with regard to ongoing behavioural, attendance or employability skills matters.
  • Developing materials including interactive online resources and planning documentation.

Our values play a critical role in cultivating culture. They set the standards for how we behave, interact with others, make decisions, and choose to act. They are:

  • Think progressively
  • Take courageous action
  • Achieve inspiring outcomes
  • Demonstrate genuine care
  • Contribute authentically
  • Succeed collectively

We value our people, so along with access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and paid parental leave, we offer a range of benefits to our AITC employees. These include superannuation matching upon completion of a qualifying period, generous long service leave entitlements, access to corporate rate health insurance, and flu vaccinations.

The AITC is committed to safe and supportive work practices. Candidates will be subject to relevant checks such as teacher registration check, Blue Card, referee checks, identification verification, and the requirement to disclose any information relevant to your eligibility to engage in activities including children.

Skills and experience

The following qualifications and experience are essential for this position:

  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Qualification in coaching, career development or other relevant area of study.
  • Experience working directly with young people, in a similar environment.
  • Demonstrated effective coaching or mentoring skills.
  • Right to work in Australia.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Applicant must hold (or able to obtain prior to commencement) a current valid Working with Children Blue Card.

Desirable:

  • Qualification in Administration or equivalent
  • Experience working with TASS or another school management system

To Apply

Interested applicants are invited to submit both a cover letter and resume which demonstrates an ability to deliver on the responsibilities of this position. The AITC reserves the right to commence screening and interviews as soon as suitable candidates are identified, so please do not delay with your application.

It is our practice to use one way Video Interviewing to support our selection. You may be requested to contribute to a Video Interview throughout this process.

Applications by and through recruitment agencies will not be considered.
