We are thrilled to announce an opening for a part-time Carer Counsellor to join our vibrant team 

The Counsellor is responsible for delivering accessible and current education, information and support, counselling and referral for carers across the ACT. The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Provision of high level flexible counselling to carers face to face and within facilitated support groups;
  • Participate and assist in the development and delivery of support groups and education programs for carers;
  • Liaising with other relevant professionals in relation to carer needs;
  • Collect and maintain relevant carer/client data and statistics;
  • Build productive relationships with other contract counsellors, community organisations, agencies and providers;
  • Provide advice and recommendations on counselling matters and assist with the development of policy and procedures with respect to counselling;
  • Providing where appropriate, liaison and tailored guided-referrals to individual and professional organisations to support carers and caring family;

 

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications as a counsellor, psychotherapist, social workers, or provisional psychologist having completed a psychology degree with qualifications recognised in Australia.
  • Have a minimum 3 years’ counselling experience in Australia. 
  • Hold accreditation within relevant Australian professional associations: Australian Counselling Association, Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, Australian Association of Social Workers or a Provisional Psychologist. 
  • Understanding of carers’ roles and needs, and a commitment to carer centred practices and family inclusiveness
  • Sound knowledge of Mental Health, community care and carer services
  • Demonstrated counselling casework skills/experience including assessment, consultation, referral and advocacy
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, competence in liaising with a wide range of stakeholders within the ACT from various communities
  • Experience with client documentation and databases;
  • Current National Police Record Check, or the ability to obtain;
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (NDIS activities approved), or the ability to obtain;
  • Up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19 (including booster), or the ability to obtain
