Carer Peer Support peer support – Youth Mental Health EACH

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Part-time ongoing  
  • Work from our headspace Knox and/or Epping office + outreach as required. 
  • $36.08 – 39.39 per hour + 11% Super + Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging up to $18,550  

 

ABOUT US

EACH has been successful in a funding bid to implement the Youth Enhanced Services (YES) program across the entire Eastern Primary Health Network catchment, with staff to be located at headspace Knox and the EACH office in Epping. YES provides support to young people aged 12 – 25 with complex and longstanding mental health issues, and their families.   

 

ABOUT YOU

As Carer Peer Support Worker you will utilise your lived experience of supporting a young person through recovery from mental health challenges, to support other carers going through their own journey in supporting young people in a similar situation.  

Responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Acting as a role model for strength and resilience, inspiring those who may struggle in their own carer role.  
  • Advising parents and other carers on how to overcome the difficulties and barriers associated with caring for a child who has mental health issues. 
  • Working alongside YES clinical staff to assist with the young person’s mental health recovery. 
  • Developing projects and co-facilitating groups that enhance the carer experience and engagement with the YES program. 

 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The successful applicant will have personal experience of being carer for a young person with mental health concerns and a demonstrated experience of recovery. 
As Carer Peer Support Worker you will: 

  • Share experiences of recovery in a way that supports, empowers, and brings hope to others while allowing them to lead their own recovery. 
  • Have knowledge and understanding of mental illness and the impact that it can have on social, family, recreational, education/training, vocation and day to day needs of the individual. 
  • Be able to work collaboratively and in partnership with staff and other organisations. 
  • Hold a Diploma level or above in a mental health or community services related field (highly regarded). 

Mandatory Qualification/s, Competencies and/or Licences 

  • Minimum Cert IV in mental health, community services, AOD or youth work. 
  • Current state-based driver’s license. 

 

WHO YOU’LL BE WORKING WITH
This interdisciplinary team will include a Psychiatrist, Mental Health Clinicians, Family Therapist, Dual Diagnosis Clinician, Youth Peer Support Worker and Carer Peer Support Worker, and an Administration Officer.
