Your Opportunity

The Family and Carer Mental Health Program supports families and carers of people with a mental illness through a comprehensive range of supports and services. The service works with families and carers as well as carers’ mental health support groups and networks, and other related local agencies and service providers in the NSW North Coast.

Reporting to the Program Manager this role will see you utilise your strong engagement and motivational skills to provide emotional support, respite referral, advocacy and carer group support, and build strong relationships with external partners to effectively identify carers, and negotiate successful outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Respond to referrals of carers and families to the service from internal and external services
  • Conduct formal assessments of suitability for the program
  • Collaborate with carers and families to create individualised support plans
  • Provide ongoing case coordination and informal counselling as required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Maintain records and produce quality reports for the service

Requirements for Success:

  • Diploma in Social Welfare (or higher) and/ or relevant industry experience
  • Senior first aid certificate
  • Understanding of mental health issues and the effects on families
  • A personal lived experience of mental illness and recovery is desirable
  • Driver’s License

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
