About the Role

You will work with male perpetrators of intimate partner violence using a multi-faceted approach of direct one-one counselling and also engaging and supporting them through group work. To be successful in this role you will need experience managing similar situations where you have assessed and managed clients with a history of using violence. The role is based at Fairfield and you will work Monday to Friday, with some weekday evening work required. 

The role is responsible for:

  • Intake & assessment, case management and counselling to support men in addressing issues which impact their safety, wellbeing, and their ability to maintain safe, respectful and enriching relationships
  • Facilitation of a psycho-educational & therapeutic group (Defuse) and may require involvement in the Accredited Men’s Behaviour Change Program – Choosing Change.

The role will also involve providing support for our ‘Local Support Services’ which facilitates local responses for male victim-survivors, providing them with case coordination and support via telephone.

About You

 To be a successful candidate you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or equivalent field
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in providing case management and counselling services to individuals and a demonstrated ability in systemic practice and theory
  • Demonstrated experience in Facilitating (male) Psycho-Educational Groups
  • Demonstrated experience in:

o Trauma informed practice model

o Responding to and intervening in Domestic & family violence impact and safety

o Mental health: Alcohol and other drugs and grief and loss counselling

  • Demonstrated skills in providing telephone intake and assessment, including experience responding to vulnerable and distressed clients
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in working with Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Communities and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in responding to the legislative requirements concerning Child Protection, Family Law and Domestic Violence
  • Demonstrated ability to appraise and critically reflect on clinical work and participation in clinical supervision
  • Demonstrated excellent ability to actively collaborate, communicate clearly and respond with respect

Highly Regarded:

  • Completion of or willingness to undertake DV Alert Training or
  • ECAV training, DV-706: Skills in working with male Family Violence
  • ECAV training, DV-702: Essential skills in Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP)
