Our programs and services are available to people on the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Darling Downs, Moreton Bay and Wide Bay regions, as well as other communities around Australia.  These services have the prime objective of delivering the organisation’s mission to support young people in their time of need to live a healthy and meaningful life.

The opportunity

The Intensive Family Support Case Officer is responsible for the delivery of a quality service to Youturn clients through a client centred framework, ensuring the needs and wishes of the clients are at the forefront of service delivery. 

Case Officers will work directly with families that are experiencing multiple and/or complex needs, who may be at risk of entering the statutory child protection system; who may be experiencing homelessness; Family and domestic violence; or other complex challenges.  

The Case Officer is required to deliver supports to increase life skill development, which may include parenting support, improve family functioning and, relationships through collaborative person-centred, strengths-based interventions to assist clients to build their own skills and capacity to keep themselves and their families safe and free from harm. 

The role of the Case Officer is to ensures that the safety of the client and/or their children is paramount.

Case Management

  • Complete the primary operational tasks and manage the client’s journey through the service with a collaborative client centred approach
  • Receive referrals, undertake assessments of clients needs, coordinate collaborative case management and regularly review case plans through liaison and collaboration with the Program Coordinator and/or Team Leader

Program Specific – Intensive Family Support (IFS)

  • Provide case management of up to 9 months to IFS Clients
  • Prescribe tasks that support case management to support workers
  • Complete structured decision making, safety assessments, risk evaluations, and safety planning
  • Use high level of written and verbal communication to liaise with Child Safety officers and stakeholder groups

  Selection Criteria

  • Extensive experience in the delivery of strengths based, collaborative, client centred case management, ensuring the wants and needs of the client are at the forefront of supports and demonstrated ability in applying such principles
  • High understanding of complex needs of clients who may have experienced trauma, may be facing or experiencing homelessness, are at risk of engaging in the child protective system and/or family support approaches
  • Understanding of issues facing children and families with complex family dynamics and needs
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with clients, which will involve having highly developed interpersonal skills, strong professional boundaries and ability to use assertive outreach skills to engage hard to reach families including unannounced home visits and cold calls
  • An ability to interpret and understand Government legislation, specifically an understanding of relevant legislation, policies and practices that impact on service development and delivery – this may include knowledge of the Child Safety Service Standards and licensing requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of client centred case management and demonstrated ability in applying such principles 
  • Knowledge of issues facing families who may be experiencing homelessness, mental health, substance dependency, trauma, domestic and family violence or facing severe barriers to achieving stability and security in their personal and family life.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community based service delivery models, including client case management practices
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire, local community support services and networks
  • Experience of behaviour and crisis management strategies and ability to implement safety risk assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a professional team; taking a professional approach, acting in the best interest of Youturn Ltd and its clients and being able to demonstrate Youturn values
  • Ability to work autonomously as required.
  • Demonstrated competence in working with people, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds.

What you’ll need

Essential

  • Tertiary level qualification or working towards in relevant discipline such as a bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services or Psychology
  • Minimum 3 years of extensive experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs
  • Experience supporting clients facing significant and varying complex challenges, with knowledge of relevant theory and legislation, supported by a practice approach that aligns with the Strengthening Families, Protecting Children framework and broad-based safety and risk assessment skills including the application of a Safe & Together model of practice
  • Ability to produce professional written documentation
  • Clear understanding of the current and relevant legislation, include Child Protection Act, and ability to acquire understanding of all relevant legislations relating to the program. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs to the clients and the program

Other requirements 

  • Hold a current ‘C’ class open drivers licence
  • Must hold a Blue Card issued by the Queensland Government.
  • Hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Suitability Check issued by the Queensland Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs
  • Youturn requires all its workplace participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an approved COVID-19 vaccine, according to up-to-date health advice from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) or a State or Federal Government; or provide a valid exemption certificate.
