About the role
This is a full-time position based in Cannington. In consultation with the South Hub Coordinator and Program Manager, this position ensures the agency provides good quality intake, screening, assessment, counselling, and appropriate support services to males in custody.
About the program
This role is a part of the ReSet program. ReSet is a Department of Justice funded adult justice program, comprising of four partners with Wungening Aboriginal Corporation taking the position as lead agency, Centrecare, Wirrapunda Foundation and St Bartholomew’s House. Centrecare also sub-contracts Zonta House Refuge Association to provide additional expertise for female offenders who have experienced family domestic violence.
ReSet provides support with re-entry to the community, accommodation, employment, and training, parenting and support to families of prisoners. The service is targeted at men and women who have been assessed by the Department as being at medium to high risk of re-offending and for parents or carers in prison who would like support to increase their parenting skills. Reintegration support is provided up to six months post-release support in the community.
About the position
- Provide culturally appropriate, respectful, sensitive, and secure pre and post release support and build relationships and connection with individuals referred to the service.
- Assist offenders to address criminogenic needs, increase personal functioning, and to make positive changes to lessen the risk of reoffending.
- Support individuals through specialist referral and linkages when in crisis and assist them to engage with and fully participate in support programs that will assist them to achieve positive outcomes.
- Identify and implement appropriate counselling techniques and behavioural modification strategies to work effectively with offenders to facilitate their reintegration.
- Be responsible for caseload, case management requirements, participation in regular direct client activities, and other allocated client related tasks.
- Work in collaboration with the Department of Corrective Services includes the Transitional Accommodation Support Service Coordinator, Transitional Managers, Custodial Officers and Correctional Officers in the community to facilitate a team approach to provide the best possible care, services and support to men exiting correctional facilities.
About you
- Clinical and counselling experience in an adult justice reintegration support setting.
- Qualification in a relevant area at degree level or higher.
- Acceptable National Criminal History Record Check and Integrity Check.
- Drivers Licence.
- Police Clearance.
- Understanding and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander families and children in contact with the justice system, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
