Case Worker – Family Intervention Program Mercy Community

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Families and Young People Services Team within Mercy Community currently have a vacancy for Permanent Full-time Case Worker position with the Family Intervention Program (FIP) in Toowoomba. The Family Intervention Program supports families who are subject to statutory intervention to meet the goals of their case plan. Through a structured process and evidence-based interventions the Family Intervention Program provides intensive support that allows families to demonstrate they are willing and able to meet the care and safety needs of their children.

The Role

This role is responsible for coordinating all aspects of casework pertaining to families referred by Child Safety Services. Within this, the role has three discreet but complementary purposes:

  • To support families holistically, within their ecological context, to function in ways that promote the safety and wellbeing of children within the family group;
  • To provide Child Safety Services with evidence-informed and balanced opinions and recommendations in relation to the safety and wellbeing of the children within the family, to assist their decision-making;
  • To actively manage the complex interface between the above two purposes (i.e., families and Child Safety Services) to promote mutual understanding through dialogue, toward ensuring that the children and parents understand the reason for Child Safety Services involvement in their lives and conversely that their voices are fully heard.

To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):

  • 3- or 4-year tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or related discipline.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Child Protection system.
  • Proven time management skills, with ability to balance and prioritise various client engagement, staff and administrative requirements
  • Provide a clear, expressed understanding of the complex challenges facing families in contemporary society.
  • Queensland Provisional Green (P2) or above Driver’s License.
  • Must hold a positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and have the ability to obtain positive Police Check and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required
  • Evidence of current vaccination against Whooping Cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
