CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church across Tasmania. We have 60 years’ experience delivering a wide range of services and support to improve individual, family, and community wellbeing. Our services are available open to all with a particular focus on families, young people, and children.

The opportunity:

CatholicCare Family Programs are seeking a full time Case Worker to join the team on a permanent basis. CatholicCare Family Programs offer a range of services to meet the needs of Children, Young People, and their families. The key service areas include Family Preservation support, Family Restoration (also known as the Pathway Home Program), and Parent & Child Focussed group programs.

Family Programs Case Workers provide outreach case management to families referred to the program from Child Safety Services whilst they’re engaging in statutory restoration and preservation processes. Case Workers will work directly with referred parents as well as complete one-on-one appointments with referred Children & Young People. The support provided to families is tailored to the child and family’s needs and includes, but is not limited to, in-home parenting support, support in establishing and implementing routines, managing finances, completing referrals to internal and external service supports and establishing community connections to support sustainable changes.

Children and Young People’s safety and well-being lies at the forefront of the program and amplifying their voices is a core part of our operations. CatholicCare Family Programs assumes a strengths-based, holistic, and flexible approach to working with families with often complex needs, through outreach services and in-home support. Relationship-based practice is at the core of the CatholicCare Family Programs model and the Program uses relationship-based practices that have a child-centred focus as well as being family-centred.

About you – Selection Criteria:

  • Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of CatholicCare Tasmania; and a broad understanding of the operation of the Catholic Church in Tasmania.
  • Commitment to working in an organisation with a focus on Safeguarding Children, ensuring all practices and activities are focused on maintaining the emotional, psychological, and physical safety of all children and young people.
  • Demonstrated high level working knowledge of the Child Safety System and understanding of the issues that impact on families within this system.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop case plans, safety plans, and risk assessments which relate to appropriate models of intervention that assist and empower families, children, and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competencies appropriate to working with vulnerable families including the ability to engage and work effectively with high level family resistance and complex family needs across multiple developmental stages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child developmental stages, therapeutic interventions, and the impact of relational trauma on childhood development and presentation.
  • Demonstrated experience of facilitation of meetings that have involved Stakeholders, Family and Extended Family, Children and Young people as well as, delivery of educational groups to Parents/Caregivers.
